Do I need to register to be able to sell?
Yes. You need to register in order to sell on AustralianArt Classifieds. Registration will give you a number of great features to assist you with selling and monitoring your listings.

Is my name or email address displayed with my ad?
You can choose which personal contact details you would like to display. During registration you can enter your full name, or you can choose to create synonym for your name. You can also choose to display or hide your email address. Contact from buyers can be done via our web site or directly. We recommend you find nice easy to remember user name. Additionally, we recommend that you hide your email address, address and phone number. But your suburb, state and country will be displayed.

How much does it cost to sell art?
The price is fixed and it costs as little as $30 per painting to sell.

What type of payment is accepted?
We accept Master or Visa card via our secure online payment form. We can also accept direct deposit. Please contact us if you are unable to pay with credit cards so we can organize bank transfers.

How long does advertising last?
Advertising is taken for one month. If it is still unsold you can renew your ad for another month for an additional cost.

What exactly can I sell?
You can sell any piece of art made by reputable Australian artists, or any fine art object made by overseas artist if the art is located in Australia. You can sell paintings, photographs, sculptors, glass, pottery, limited editions signed prints, lithographs, etchings, installations, wall hangings

What items will not be displayed?
All non-art items will not be displayed. Such as prints if they are mass produced and not signed. Mass produced "art" that comes from Asia. "Art" from unknown artists and unsigned art if it is in a medium that is usually signed or initialed.

Can I sell if I live overseas?
Yes. You can sell art if you live overseas. Note, only artists in our database will be allowed on the site. And the art work has to be made by Australian artists. If the artist is not in database, please contact us for inclusion.

Does AustralianArt Classifieds charge any commission?
AustralianArt Classifieds does not charge any commission on selling the painting. You only pay advertising one off fee and are not charged again, unless of course you want to re-list your item again for an additional month then an additional cost will be incurred.

Can AustralianArt Classifieds sell art on my behalf?
Yes. AustralianArt has number of clients searching for specific artwork. We also work with a number of galleries and auction houses that we can request information in order to achieve the best sales for you. If you want to engage AustralianArt Classifieds in selling your work, please contact us and we can discuss your needs. Special charges and commissions will apply in this instance.

Can I sell art by an overseas artist?
Yes. The artist has to be included in our database. If the artist is not included in our database you can send details of the artist for inclusion. Additionally the artwork has to be on Australian soil.

What type of art can I sell?
You can only sell the art made by the artist in our database. We have more than 10,000 artists listed. You can browse our categories to see what medium of art you can sell.

Does your database cover artists for each category?
Only specific categories such as Aboriginal Art and Fine Art use our artist database. Other categories like Art Books, Art Photography do not require the artist to be listed in our database and are open.

What happens if I can't find the artist?
If you can’t find the artist when you search, you can fill out the form that comes automatically if the result is not displayed and send to us requesting to include the artist in data base. You need to supply the artist Full name, date of birth and death and simple description about the artist. Galleries he exhibits. And the sample of art work.

Why is it necessary to have the artist already in the database?
We want to make sure that the art selling on Australian Art web site is of good quality by reputable artists only. We do not accept paintings or any other art work that is mass produced. You can use Ebay for selling that type of art.

How does selling work?
When you place an ad, you are allowing people to contact you directly regarding purchase of that item. It is the same principle as advertising cars, houses etc. You negotiate your sales directly with potential buyers. AustralianArt Classifieds is simply connects buyers with sellers.

How many hits does AustralianArt get and how do you promote your own site?
AustralianArt currently gets over 20,000 hits per week. We target the Art Market with news and reviews. Our search ranking is number one on Google under keywords such as Australian art, we are also on the first page of Yahoo and other search engines.

How many separate items can I display at one time?
Currently you can display maximum of 8 items at any one time.

How much should I sell my art for?
It is very important to find the right price. People are not interested in purchasing something that is overpriced and at the same time if something is too cheap buyers are often suspicious.

To sell your artwork you have to find the right price, a price that is fair to both buyers and sellers.

First you need to know an approximate price of how much the current market value is for certain artists you want to sell.

You than have to take in consideration that by selling via AustralianArt classifieds you will not pay any commission that will normally apply to galleries or auction houses. Therefore it would be advisable to reduce the price slightly as you do not have these overhead costs.

The winning price is the one that the buyer will pay little less than in the gallery or auction house sale, and you will get a little bit more than selling via gallery or auction house.

Please do not ask us to price your art. This site is art classifieds only, there are many other ways on the internet to determine the price of certain artists.

Should I display price on my ad or leave it blank for people to enquire about the price?
It is always advisable to display price for any item you are selling. The buyers are usually suspicious if there is no price displayed. Plus some potential buyers might think it is not displayed because it is to expensive, causing them to not contact you.

What is ONO (Or nearest offer) feature?
Make an offer feature is the one that buyer can make an offer to you. If you select ONO you will have a greater chance of potential buyers contacting you.

Where I can find ONO feature?
When you place an ad and enter the price of the item, you have choice to select AUD or ONO.

Importance of picture display?
Being an art site, when selling art it is very important to place good quality pictures taken by a digital camera with reasonably good quality.

There are three free pictures available to display for each add. It is important to take the following pictures.

First picture is the artwork without the frame. This will be displayed as thumbnail.
Second picture should be the artwork with the frame, if there is a frame.
And third should be close up of the signature of the artist if it is visible.

What should I put in description of the art I am selling?
Always use simple and short explanation. You may include a few words about the artist, and how long you have had the painting, provenance of the work, where you bought it, who had it before you – and also if it is important Australian art.

And also include other instructions for shipping, or viewing.

Do I need to register if I want to buy art?
No. You can contact seller without registration. But if registered users have additional features such as being able to put paintings in favorites, use message other users, and create requests and a personal profile.

What is the buying process?
The buying process is a very simple process. Simply find the art piece you are interested in and you contact seller directly. When contacting the seller simply organise to view the art, along with your chosen method of purchase, payment and shipping.

How do I know that art I am buying is genuine?
AustralianArt Classifieds has measures in place to protect our users. Each listing submission must be approved before it is listed. Our expert panel is viewing each advertisement before it is displayed on the site. Any suspicious listings are deleted immediately.

AustralianArt Classifieds recommends that all buyers follow these simple steps to minimize risks.

Ask the seller to view the art work before purchasing.
Ask seller to supply if possible the receipt of purchase.
Ask where the painting was acquired, if the gallery phone the gallery to verify. Speak on the phone.

If the seller is genuine they won’t have a problem supplying this information to you.

What measures of protection can I implement?
AustralianArt Classifieds recommends using the independent Escrow service to protect both buyers and sellers alike.

How does Escrow help me?
It works very simple to. You agree with seller to use Escrow service. If the seller is genuine and you are prepared to pay escrow fees, they will have no reason to object.

Once agreed upon, you pay the full amount to Escrow. Escrow will inform the seller that they have your money in a trust and seller can ship the goods to you.

Once you get goods, you can view it, make sure the painting is authentic, have time to get it certified and if you are fully satisfied you instruct the Escrow service to pay the seller otherwise you return the goods. Simple!

What happens if I use Escrow and the painting is not what it was claimed to be?
You instruct the Escrow not to pay. Contact seller to organise the return of the art, and you get full money back from Escrow less the previously agreed commission owed to Escrow.

Why choose AustralianArt Classifieds?
The galleries and auction houses charge commissions on sales. These commissions can go as high as 50% of the selling price.

The Galleries and Auction Houses are also very strict in what type of art they accept to sell. For example most of the auction houses prefer to sell the art of particular dead artists.

If I see ONO how much should I offer?
The answer is ultimately up to you. You can offer any amount you like, but be careful not to submit extremely low offers. This may offend some sellers and they will refuse to negotiate with you. If you do make a low offer do it nicely and politely explaining your reasons. It is also important to leave room for further negotiations if you are interested in purchasing a particular art piece.

Please do not make an offer if you are not genuinely interested to buy.
